Tooting & Mitcham 2 WTFC 1 (CM Trophy) - 12.10.10

A meagre crowd of 91 witnessed a spirited Town performance against their premier league opposition.
With DALTON back in the Town line up at left back and PULMAN being handed the captain's armband, the Oystermen started brightly, with PULMAN and VAHID both guilty of missing early chances created by the industrious HEARD and WISKER, which on another night been converted and we could have gone to the bar and watched England (or not).
SHERMAN made his intentions clear with an early booking and show great fire and determination along with that long throw.
YIANNI was also pulling the midfield strings and improving with every performance,so it was only a matter of time before Town took the lead.
A whipped in free kick by CORNHILL (who again played well as sweeper) caused problems in the home defence, with the ball falling to PULMAN who poked in the loose ball 0-1.
Before this SMITH in the Whitstable goal was called on to make two fine saves, but with the solid LLOYD and DOUGLAS assured at right back, the defence we thought could be on for a clean sheet.Alas this was not to be as Town again looked in control, a minute of madness completly turned things around.
SMITH charged out to clear a dangerous through ball, only to find BEARD who cleverly lobbed it back into an empty net from 45 yards 1-1, then from the kick off HENRY popped up at the far post to net from a neat right wing cross, 2-1.
NEAL and CORY were introduced into the action, with the keeper saving from a NEAL snap shot.
So final score 2-1, but a much better Town performance, and if only we could play every game tuesday night we would be in the play-offs.
Regretfully though for the small travelling away support (12 and I can name them), no programme was on offer to Half time ,then it fell apart in you hand as the lone staple fell out, AND if you fancied a pint (in plastic) you could not take it outside (although there were no visible signs saying you couldn't).
I, after passing two younger stewards was given the heavy handed treatment by an overweight/zealous steward, who was probably the leader as he was the plumbest saying (with me with a pint of Guinness in hand)..."is that alcohol ? if so drink it NOW or take it in side". The question remains why serve it in plastic if you can't take it outside.
Rant over roll on next game.
