WTFC 2 Chatham 1 - 09.04.2011

Well yes it was "Heart attack stuff", first half they took the game to us, had a shot come back out off the inside of the post, and (by now obviously) PK stupidly, and needlessly getting sent off after reacting to a challenge I wouldn't personally call X-rated.  Second half, we came firing out of the blocks, ballooning a few shots over the bar, and putting them under the cosh for long periods, they scored first after a cross to the far post wickedly turned ...

Bognor Regis 1 WTFC 1 - 15.02.11

Report couresty of steveparsons

Excellent result against a high flying Bognor side.

PULMAN could have given WTFC an early lead, but shot over. After this it was really backs to the wall, with HAWKINS and LLOYD solid again at the back and SMITH L and ULPH having to deal with the constant wing threat. S.SMITH was called on to make a couple of fine saves and the game was all square at the break (my 39 minutes on the first goal a loser). Bognor now applied more pressure, but CORNHILL could ha...

Burgess Hill 1 WTFC 1 - 05.02.11

Posted by Per Laleng on Saturday, February 5, 2011, In : Ryman League

By all accounts, the performance against Welling on Tuesday was very good notwithstanding the fact that Welling fielded a number of academy players. Whitstable continued their impressive recent performances with a good draw away at Burgess Hill. They scored both the goals. Unfortunately, only one went in the home team's net. The first was an impressive own goal from Ashley 'Butch' Ulph, scoring with a looped shot over Shaun Smith (now installed, for the moment, at least, as Whitstable's No.1....

WTFC 2 Leatherhead 2 - 29.01.11

Posted by Per Laleng on Sunday, January 30, 2011, In : Ryman League

There is a buzz around the Belmont: the appointment of Peter Nott seems to have lifted everyone at the Club (except Kevin 'Wonder'-Fewell, who sadly, as decided to call it a day after his 218 appearances for The Oystermen. Cheers Kev: I'm sure you'd be welcome back any time). That buzz was transmitted into this game against Leatherhead. Whitstable's record against the visitors was not good: played 6, lost 4, conceding more than two and scoring less than one goal a game. But, the opposition st...

WTFC 0 Dulwich Hamlet 1 - 08.01.11

Posted by Per Laleng on Sunday, January 9, 2011, In : Ryman League

To coin the aphorism: she’s a cruel mistress. The Oystermen were undone by a goal in the 92nd minute as Dulwich returned to London with all three points and a 1-0 victory. On the balance of play, especially in the second half, it was an undeserved victory for the visitors – but you got the sense that the hosts would have been happy with a 0-0 draw in the last twenty minutes despite their sporadic yet incisive attacks. That said, the final quarter was testament to an exciti...

Faversham 1 WTFC 1 - 03.01.11

Match report by yourcanterbury

By Glenn Pearson

An opportunist strike from hitman Ian Pulman 12 minutes from time earned Whitstable Town a derby point in an entertaining game with in-form Faversham Town at Salters Lane.

Supporters were still queuing to get through the turnstiles at 3pm as a Bank Holiday crowd of 330 squeezed in to watch the visitors, under caretaker boss Steve Nolan, dominate the first-half. Whitstable almost took the lead on 21 minutes when a headed clearance found TJ M...

WTFC 1 Ramsgate 0 - 27.12.10

Posted by Per Laleng on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, In : Ryman League

On a bobbly pitch, manfully cleared by the committee for the occasion, Whitstable finally secured all three points at home against a surprisingly lacklustre Ramsgate side. What is more, the victory was deserved. The Oystermen could have won by more but for some heroic goalkeeping by the visitors' stopper. Ramsgate's captain (and Whitstable's former captain and favourite, Liam Quinn) also ensured that the scoreline remained more respectable for the Rams.

Caretaker manager Steve Nolan picked...

WTFC 1 Walton & Hersham 1 - 13.11.10

Posted by Per Laleng on Monday, November 15, 2010, In : Ryman League

The team is going through a transformation of personnel: new signing Lloyd Blackman partnered Pulman up front; Gooding played on the right hand side of midfield, and put in a good shift with Yianni on the opposite flank; Sherman captained the side playing slightly deeper than Wisker and in front of loan signing Groombridge and new signing TJ Monkur in centre of defence; Morris played at right back and Cornhill at left back and Fewell was back between the sticks despite Smith's man of the mat...

WTFC 2 Fleet Town 3 - 06.11.10

Posted by Per Laleng on Monday, November 8, 2010, In : Ryman League

The red men started the game in blistering form, playing some really decent passing football and were rewarded within the first five minutes as Stuart Vahid dinked a lovely ball onto the far post and in for the home side's opener. The goal came so quickly and unexpectedly that I failed to get a picture (and I was enjoying a nice pint of Guiness). The back line looked assured on the ball, and the loan signing, Groombridge, marshalled the back four with a good use of his voice. The Oysterme...

A decent enough performance against a team in the top six...

Not too much goalmouth action in the first half, although we had a couple of good chances, but the opponents got on top for a spell in the middle period.

After the break, more chances came and went and we should have been awarded a penalty when Vahid was knocked over as he was about to shoot. Eventually Pulman ran on to a through ball and rounded the keeper to give us the lead with 10 minutes to play. W...

WTFC 2 Sittingbourne 1 - 28.09.10

Posted by Per Laleng on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, In : Ryman League

What a cracking game of football! The visitors had the best of the first ten minutes, but after that, there were chances either end. Lloydy came very close with a header from a corner that he probably should have buried; Cory had a goal ruled out for an apparent offside, but as the ball bounced off the keeper after some pinball in the area, the goal would probably have been disallowed for the handball anyway (the lino on that side had a pretty dodgy first half).

Shaun Smith, who earned his Man...

WTFC took the lead in only 3 minutes, when a good cross by CORY, saw PULMAN beat the keeper at the near post to tuck the ball away. The keeper 'rolled around a bit' trying to claim a foul but the ref was having none of it 0-1.
Minutes later CORY again tried to whip in a low cross which was hand balled, some saying it was a penalty.
The free kick by WISKER was played in low, eluded the defence and SOUTON was at hand at the far post to poke it home 0-2.
Chances came think a...

Corinthian-Casuals 2 WTFC 2 - 18.09.10

It took Whitstable a long time to get into their stride in this game. I'm not sure what the formation was last Saturday, but the combination of Denly and Gooding in the middle of the park looked disjointed: it's kind of the reverse of the Lampard-Gerrard problem in that Denly and Gooding are too similar to play alongside eachother, and both lack pace. But if the Manager is to accommodate Louis Smith, Denly and Lloydy, as well as satisfying Gooding's desire to continue playing football, then...

A bit of a nervous start against a side packed with young hopefuls, who lacked guidence. Horsham had 5 new starters today, so even to the home crowd were going to be a mystery what their performance would be.

To the match. after a bright 5 minutes when their keeper was forced into a good save,Horsham had a string of corners in which one was forced home at the near post 0-1. Wisker was then the target of some rough treatment by their No 10,who had his name taken fo...

WTFC 0 Faversham 3 - 30.08.2010

Posted by Per Laleng on Monday, August 30, 2010, In : Ryman League

I was late for the game. About half an hour in. It was nice (but also very sad) to see the Choirmaster there. RIP little Lee.

By the time of my arrival, Faversham had already scored from a penalty. Fewell was the guilty party, but opinion seemed divided on whether it should have been a penalty. Yet, for the remainder of the first half, most of the action seemed to be in the Faversham final third, and at times, Whitstable played some half decent football.

The second half was another story apa...
