WTFC 0 Faversham 3 - 30.08.2010

I was late for the game. About half an hour in. It was nice (but also very sad) to see the Choirmaster there. RIP little Lee.

By the time of my arrival, Faversham had already scored from a penalty. Fewell was the guilty party, but opinion seemed divided on whether it should have been a penalty. Yet, for the remainder of the first half, most of the action seemed to be in the Faversham final third, and at times, Whitstable played some half decent football.

WTFC 3 Croydon FC 0 - FA Cup Qualifier 28.08.2010

These two teams had met in pre-season when Whitstable also emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. However, this game promised something different as Croydon made 8 changes from that which had earlier lost. Alas, the wholesale changes did little beyond confuse the visitors who seemed lost at sea at times and made up for it by getting physical and arguing with the ref. 

Whitstable won the encounter convincingly and the scoreline could have been much greater had Whitstable put away their chances. ...

WTFC 4 Folkestone Invicta 1 (Friendly) - 14 August 2010

First off an apology to Dave Soutan as I thought he was Craig White in Tuesday's game. Soutan played again today and shored up the middle of the park with Dan Wisker whose stock is rising by the game. Manager Mark Lane faces a luxury problem: the squad looks strong, but it is unlikely that he will be able to keep everyone. There are some difficult decisions to be made, and rather him than me!

WTFC 0 Maidstone Utd 1 (Friendly) - 10.08.10

A game that Whitstable could have won, and a very decent performance against a team in the next league up - especially in the second half when Whitstable played some decent possession football.

Maidstone scored in the first three minutes, whilst Whitstable were still in the dressing room. GS mis-timed his tackle (I am told) and from the resulting quick throw, a player wide right whipped in a low cross that was glanced gently past an outstretched Fewell low to his right.

WTFC 3 Margate 2 (Friendly) - 7 August 2010

 This was a very encouraging performance, and there were signs not only of a re-invigorated team spirit, but a professionalism that has been lacking for a while - exemplified by some really hard-core warmdowns after the game. There were also signs of some decent possession football at times here, and win lose or draw, if we play like that, no-one will mind.

Bruce Smith Shield: Whitstable 1 Herne Bay 1 (4-3 pens)

Finally!


 
At the third time of asking, Whitstable finally lift the shield that honours the footballing legend that is Bruce Smith, and even better: his grandson, Louis Smith, played a big part in securing victory (despite his penalty miss). 

 
For me, it was a game of two halves. Herne  Bay had the better part of the first half showing some crisp pass and move. With Seags seconding Simon Halsey in the dug out, Jake Gess in the holding midfield role and Danny Lawrence displaying some trickery...
