Marc Seager.
Thanks for the success you have brought the club
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this was a very scrappy game, especially the first half. Neither team had anything real to play for. Whitstable wanted to surpass their points-tally from last season. I can't quite work out where Godalming were last season, but if they were promoted, they had already done very well. Of course, as it turns out, the game itself was eventually overshadowed by the news that Marc Seager had resigned his posi... Continue reading ...
Walton Casuals 1 WTFC 2 - 18.04.09
In a game in which neither side had much to play for and after a gruelling Cup Final against Welling United on Thursday, a fairly low tempo opening was perhaps not that unexpected. But it was also heartening to see that Seags decided against fielding a team made up exclusively of fringe-players. Many who started against Welling also played on Saturday, and surprisingly played with an unexpected level of energy for which they should be commended.
There was an interesting lesson t... ? Continue reading ...
WTFC 1 Sittingbourne 1 - 13.04.09
The game was far from being a spectacle. In fact, most of this performance was pretty poor. It was just as well that Sittingbourne seemed to have forgotten their shooting boots as well or else this could have been a very different story. It wasn't even a game of two halves: rather it was a game of 80 minutes rubbish followed by 10 minutes of some really attractive play by Whitstable - when they could almost have picked up an unlikely three points. But a point is not to be sniffed at, so... Continue reading ...

A Divided House? (Not by the looks of things)
Not only did a large majority of the more vocal Oysterboys fail to turn up for this Boxing Day historical derby, but so too did some of Town's players. In fact, I'm not convinced I was wholly there either!
This was a game from which Town could, and probably should have taken some points after their league cup clash earlier this season. Whitstable won that one 1-0 away, Steve Marshall bagging the only goal.

WTFC 2 Horsham YMCA 0 - 02.02.08
Pullman seeks solace from the ref after failing to claim the match ball.
Horsham feel the heat.
Whitstable went into this six-pointer on the back of a good win in a friendly against Ryman Premier side Folkstone Invicta midweek, and the team seemed to be oozing confidence and determination from the first whistle. Horsham YMCA had notched up a mere 5 wins before this encounter. That included a double against newly promoted Eastbourne Town, who in turn had beaten and drawn with the Oystermen. For ... Chipstead 3 WTFC 1 - 12.01.08
A beautiful sky over Chipstead.
But are the Chips down for the Oysters? Pullie rues a squandered chance
This was always going to be a tough game. Chipstead have not only been flying in the league, but they play in green. So the omens were not good. The Chipstead side looked like a completely different team from that which won 2-1 at The Belmont earlier in the season. Unfortunately, they looked even better: tall, strong and solid in central defence and a tricky pairing at right back and ri... Continue reading ...
WTFC 4 Corinthian-Casuals 2 - 10.01.08
Steve Marshall and Ian Pulman
General Seager started his relegation battle with new signing Dave Cory joining his former Ramsgate strike partner, Ian Pulman, up front. With Sam Denly out with an injury and Tommy Martin having won his place back anyway after his outstanding performance against Chipstead last week, the midfield looked much more balanced: Jake Gess and Tom Parker out wide and Marcos Perona shoring up the middle with Martin.
Tommy Martin - nice shape and loving the determinatio... Continue reading ...
Whyteleafe 0 WTFC 0 - 14.02.09
The game kicked off 18 minutes late because one of the linesmen was late. This was an unwelcome start to proceedings because it was bloody cold out there. But at least the game went on – there being some doubt about that until the referee gave the go-ahead shortly before kick-off.
As has been noted elsewhere, this really was a game of two-halves. The first belonged to the Oystermen whereas the second was just about Whyteleafe’s. The end result was a fair one.
Dave Cory had the ea... ? Continue reading ...
WTFC 3 Whyteleafe 2 - 14.10.08
Whether by accident or design, Rob Thomas was the only change to this Whitstable side which ultimately out-played a fancied Whyteleafe side visiting The Belmont hot on the heels of a good victory against Welling in the FA cup. Despite some gloom around the stands before kick-off, The Oystermen started brightly. On 8 minutes, Wisker put Pullie through with a neat reverse pass and Pullie showed great composure by placing the ball beyond the keeper.
Having now not only beaten last Saturd... Continue reading ...
WTFC 3 Worthing 1 - 16.02.08
You Reds!
By most accounts, Whitstable acquitted themselves very well against promotion contenders Tooting & Mitcham United last weekend despite the unflattering 3-1 loss. Saturday's game against Worthing was a different proposition altogether as an unsettled Worthing side paid it's first visit to The Belmont for a while...

WTFC 2 Crowborough 1 - 25.10.08
The Oystermen put in a good shift against Brackley Town last Saturday in the FA Trophy. Having taken the lead early in the first half, they gave a team of well-paid players a good game until Brackley took the lead with a soft goal some twenty minutes from the end. At that stage, it was obvious (and understandably so) that no-one really had the appetite for a replay somewhere near Northampton. But at least Whitstable had started scoring goals and they played some excellent counter-attacking fo... Continue reading ...

"10/10" Ian Pulman
Cray Wanderers visited The Belmont with an unbeaten 20 match run under their belt. Lying very comfortably in third place before the game and having beaten Whitstable three times already this term, it was going to be a big ask to get anything out of the game. But oozing confidence after their excellent performance against Dulwich Hamlet last weekend, here was a Whitstable side that was not going to take it lying down.

WTFC 0 Fleet 2 - 06.09.08
Andy Sinton’s Fleet inflicted further misery on The Oystermen’s poor start to the season cruising to a deserved victory at The Belmont. A marginally better organised Fleet camped in the hosts’ half in a scrappy opening which also saw Campbell (filling in at left back) putting in some crunching tackles which more often than not led to the concession of free-kicks. A mere 7 minutes into the game and Fleet's James Field crossed dangerously from the right for Hemmings to header onto the po... Continue reading ...

Tommy Martin is delighted with the second goal
This was a six pointer that Whitstable was in danger of throwing away. The first half display by the Oystermen was dire - the only saving grace being that it did not look like Chatham was going to score: Whitstable's back line was relatively solid despite the lack of control in midfield, and Chatham seemed to have left their finishing boots in the dressing room. But for the vast majority of the first half, Whitstable was pegged down in their own h... Continue reading ...
Leatherhead 1 WTFC 2 - 31.01.09
Pre-match, there was some talk on the terraces about whether Tom Parker was cutting the mustard in the middle of the park and the consensus seemed to be a lack of consistency and goals on his part. He must have overheard the conversation as he not only played well but also scored his first goal of the season, and for as long as I remember. It is also obvious why the manager likes him, because his voice is always heard on the pitch, irrespective of how well he is playing.
But things did... Continue reading ...
Walton & Hersham 1 WTFC 0 - 15.11.08
In successive seasons, Whitstable have now left Walton & Hersham's ground feeling that they should have got something out of the game. Surely? The home side looked distinctly ordinary in the first half and their game was beset by internal strife and arguments. The classic line of the game came from the returning No.11 who, referring to the Oystermen, shouted at his team mates: "there are two of them everywhere!" One would have thought this was a good sign - something that the players in yello... Continue reading ...
WTFC 2 Walton & Hersham 1 - 22.03.08
Walton & Hersham were relegated last season and had proved a tough opponent to crack at their place on 25 August. AC went off injured in that game and the long grass rendered Whitstable's passing game nugatory. Whitstable succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against a side that really looked nothing special. The return leg was a different affair as Whitstable welcomed their former striker, Jon Neal, back to The Belmont.
Walton & Hersham, who famously beat Brian Clough's Brighton 4-0 in an FA cup replay,... Continue reading ...
Bromley 2 WTFC 3 - Kent Senior Cup SF 31.03.09
I don’t think anyone saw that result coming, but there was an element of karma at work here: not only had the Bromley management and administration apparently treated our management and team with a certain degree of disdain and lack of respect (suggesting they would use the game as a training session), but I was also kept outside the ground for a good ten minutes as my “name wasn’t on the list”. In three years of following local football and taking photos for the local press, I... Continue reading ...
WTFC 0 Dulwich Hamlet 0 - 7.03.09
Pullie collected an award for his hatrick earlier in February A game between these two sides usually produces a goal-fest. This one didn't, and it was no classic spectacle. But I disagree with comments suggesting that it was boring. And a point and a clean sheet are not to be balked at even if this was a game from which three points could have been bagged. Having said that it wasn't that boring, it's equally true to say that it wasn't exactly peppered with incidents. And given that the game ... Continue reading ...
Dulwich Hamlet 4 WTFC 3 - 28.10.08
This was never going to be an easy game, but last season this game away at Dulwich Hamlet proved to be the turning point as Whitstable took all three points after a fantastic 3-2 victory against a team flying high in the league. Tommy Martin's free kick was the pick of the bunch in that game. On a blisteringly cold night at Dulwich with sheets of sleet hammering at the players, many fans decided to take advantage of the warmth of the fantastic bar. But a hard core of travelling Oysterboys, w... Continue reading ...
Dulwich Hamlet 2 WTFC 3 - 23.02.08
Whitstable travelled to Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday - a nice stadium built courtesy of Sainsbury's. Despite challenging for the play-off places, Dulwich had lost their influential captain to Kingstonian the day before this game and their recent results had been somewhat erratic. That said, they had recorded an impressive 2-0 victory against the Oystermen when the teams met at The Belmont on 10 November. Their pace had proved to be Whitstable's undoing on that occasion. In front of a respecta... Continue reading ...
