Walton Casuals 1 WTFC 2 - 29.09.07

Posted by Per Laleng on Friday, November 6, 2009, In : Archived match report

On arrival at Walton Casuals' ground set near a leisure centre, river (or canal) and a couple of massive reservoirs, there was a general sense of optimism in the air - like Whitstable Town FC were exuding belief from the dressing room before even entering the pitch. It helped tremendously that there was a hard core of singing Oysterboys and girls in good spirits behind the Walton goal.

This game bore some of the hallmarks of the phrase heard bandied about pre-season: that in the Ryman leag...

WTFC 1 Chipstead 2 - 25.09.07

Posted by Per Laleng on Friday, November 6, 2009, In : Archived match report

After the four-nil pasting by the excellent Tooting on Saturday, tonight's game should have been a comfortable win against bottom of the league Chipstead. A member of Tooting management had suggested to the Oysterboys that although Chipstead were a physical side, we should beat them even playing as poorly as we had against Tooting. This six-pointer did not go to plan - if indeed there was one.

In the first half, Whitstable were plain awful. No other word will do. There was not a single shot ...

WTFC 2 Eastbourne 2 - 20.08.07

Posted by Per Laleng on Friday, November 6, 2009, In : Archived match report
The first game in the Ryman League for Whitstable Town in its 122 year history was always going to be an exciting occasion and the oystermen generally acquitted themselves well. They came out of the blocks, firing on all cylinders, and scored early from a set-piece. Veteran striker, Steve Marshall, held up the ball and set it up for captain Marcos Perona to fire a scorcher home from about 25 yards (left).
After the goal, Whitstable seemed to go to sleep for most of the rest of the first half. ...

Met Police 2 WTFC 1 - 21.08.07

Posted by Per Laleng on Sunday, November 1, 2009, In : Archived match report

On Tuesday 21 August Whitstable travelled to the newly laid pitch at Metropolitan Police FC (inset above). A punter suggested that the lights used to belong to Chelsea and it has to be said that they were some of the best lights I have seen at this level of football - although they could have done with having some by the half way line!

The game promised to be a difficult one with the Police challenging for promotion last term. With that in mind, manager Marc Seager appeared to field a 4-5-1 fo...

Kingstonian 1 WTFC 1 - 28.03.09

Kingst v WTFC_041

The Kingstonian forum was a abuzz prior to kick-off predicting a mauling of The Oystermen, and the omens did not look good after Whitstable gave away the ball with the first kick of the game. That allowed high-flying Kingstonian to launch a swift attack forcing Kevin Fewell to make a fingertip save within 30 seconds of the start. Fortunately, the shock seemed to remind the Red Men (playing in yellow) that the game had started and they quickly composed themselves.

Kingstonian 3 WTFC 0 - 08.03.08

Posted by Per Laleng on Saturday, October 17, 2009, In : Archived match report
A miserable day on a number of counts, but predominantly due to the weather and the score. Whitstable have had a reputation for playing good football in the rain, but perhaps it did not rain hard enough to motivate the players? Whatever the explanation, most of them weren't at the races (or maybe they were at the races but should have been at the game!)

Ian Pulman has one of Whitstable's few shots late on

Ok, fair enough, Kingstonian are a good, established Ryman league side despite their poor ...

WTFC 2 Kingstonian 3 - 24.11.07

Posted by Per Laleng on Saturday, October 17, 2009,

Kingstonian’s visit to the Belmont was always going to be a stern test for Whitstable irrespective of their stuttering recent form. Two 3-1 losseson the bounce, and facing an established Ryman side lying third in the table, a team that doesn’t seem to lose away, who score twice as many as they give away the signs for Whitstable were inauspicious. Their cause was hardly helped by the recall of Big John Akinde by Ebbsfleet United just before the game. But as one chapter ends another begins:...
