It was a scorcher of a day at Burgess Hill, and the crowd of 300 plus particularly enjoyed the pre-game spectacle of the Town Crier announcing the game on the pitch. The Head to Head suggested this would be a close game despite Burgess Hill's decent pre-season record. Both teams started pretty brightly. Gary Sayer showed a willingness to drive forward from the left back position whilst at the same time having to mark the biggest No.7 I have ever seen in the shape of Cotton. He created a goo... WTFC 1 Godalming 1 - 25.04.09
Marc Seager.
Thanks for the success you have brought the club
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this was a very scrappy game, especially the first half. Neither team had anything real to play for. Whitstable wanted to surpass their points-tally from last season. I can't quite work out where Godalming were last season, but if they were promoted, they had already done very well. Of course, as it turns out, the game itself was eventually overshadowed by the news that Marc Seager had resigned his posi... Continue reading ...
WTFC 1 Folkestone Invicta 1 - 23.09.08
I went to The Belmont on a one-man protest: by not taking my camera and deciding instead to make use of my season ticket from the stands. Maybe this is the way forward because Whitstable played really well for the first time this season. I gather some words were had after the Eastbourne game, and whatver was said seemed to have had the desired result!
There is very little to add to what has already been said about the game. In the first half, Whistable was in complete control against a team... Continue reading ...
Players' presentation night - 10.05.08
Posted by Per Laleng on Sunday, November 15, 2009,
This took place at the Marine last night and was good fun. Woke up with a cracking hangover although I can't remember drinking that much. I assume it was too much sun ...
Bruce got a standing ovation from the room to recognise all the hard work he has put into the club over the years and it was well deserved. The best news of all is that there will now be an annual fixture known as the Bruce Smith shield between Whitstable and, yes, you guessed it, Herne Bay. This year's fixture is on 5th Au... WTFC 2 Horsham YMCA 0 - 02.02.08
Pullman seeks solace from the ref after failing to claim the match ball.
Horsham feel the heat.
Whitstable went into this six-pointer on the back of a good win in a friendly against Ryman Premier side Folkstone Invicta midweek, and the team seemed to be oozing confidence and determination from the first whistle. Horsham YMCA had notched up a mere 5 wins before this encounter. That included a double against newly promoted Eastbourne Town, who in turn had beaten and drawn with the Oystermen. For ... Met Police 2 WTFC 1 - 21.08.07
On
Tuesday 21 August Whitstable travelled to the newly laid pitch at
Metropolitan Police FC (inset above). A punter suggested that the
lights used to belong to Chelsea and it has to be said that they were
some of the best lights I have seen at this level of football -
although they could have done with having some by the half way line!
The
game promised to be a difficult one with the Police challenging for
promotion last term. With that in mind, manager Marc Seager appeared to
field a 4-5-1 fo... Continue reading ...
WTFC 2 Whyteleafe 3 - 03.05.08
Jake Gess "Passion and Pride" (even if The Times cut out the ball in the picture)
Rumour has it that Whyteleaf played in knickers and suspenders for the final game of the season. But they still played in green, so the omens were always going to be bad despite Whitstable's good finish to the season.
Prior to the game, Kevin Fewell, who must be a contender for player of the season for the second year in succession (along with Danny Tipple), was presented with an award for his 100th cap for Whit...

Kingstonian 1 WTFC 1 - 28.03.09
The Kingstonian forum was a abuzz prior to kick-off predicting a mauling of The Oystermen, and the omens did not look good after Whitstable gave away the ball with the first kick of the game. That allowed high-flying Kingstonian to launch a swift attack forcing Kevin Fewell to make a fingertip save within 30 seconds of the start. Fortunately, the shock seemed to remind the Red Men (playing in yellow) that the game had started and they quickly composed themselves. Ten minutes into the game saw ... Continue reading ...
WTFC 1 Cray Wanderers 4 - 09.12.08

I should have statyed on honeymoon cos this game certainy wasn't one! Cray scored a very good goal within a couple of minutes from way out as an attempted clearance landed on the boot of Kinch who shot from outside the area into the bottom corner. There was nothing Fewell could have done about it, but the ball should have been cleared in the first place.
Whitstable did manage a shot at goal in the first ten after Danny Tipple hurdled a couple of Cray player, crossed for Clint Gooding who shot ... Continue reading ...
WTFC 3 Chatham 0 - 01.12.07
Gold at the end of the Rainbow
The return of Andy Constable to the Belmont in a blue shirt coincided with Town's first real "six-pointer" of the season.
(AC considers the new Whitstable partnership of Lawrence and Neal)
Chatham were one place and a point above Whitstable before the game and their away form was remarkably similar to the Oystermen's home form - pretty unremarkable on both scores.
(AC returns to the Belmont in a blue shirt)
Seager picked the same team that had acquitted itself so we... Continue reading ...
Leatherhead 1 WTFC 2 - 31.01.09
Pre-match, there was some talk on the terraces about whether Tom Parker was cutting the mustard in the middle of the park and the consensus seemed to be a lack of consistency and goals on his part. He must have overheard the conversation as he not only played well but also scored his first goal of the season, and for as long as I remember. It is also obvious why the manager likes him, because his voice is always heard on the pitch, irrespective of how well he is playing.
But things did... Continue reading ...
Cray Wanderers 3 WTFC 0 - League Cup QF 22/01/08
Posted by Per Laleng on Friday, September 11, 2009,
We lost 3-0. The score flattered Cray slightly, but they were the better team. We didn't play as well as on Saturday and I think I'm right in saying we had one shot on goal in the first half, which the Cray keeper saved very well. In the second, we played better, but were hassled out of possession when we got it (which wasn't very often).
Much more attacking in second half. Two Town goals disallowed in the game. At least one was good. Cray always looked like they would win it. I thought all ... Continue reading ...
Dover 1 WTFC 1 - 29.12.07

Despite Chatham being the only team to have beaten Dover at home this season; and Whitstable being one of only 3 teams to have drawn with them, many (including me) had this encounter down as a likely thumping by top of the league Dover. Perhaps in part inspired by Hessenthaller's insistence on spelling his name "Mark" in the match-day programme, Marc Seager must have given his side a hell of a team-talk, because in front of a bumper crowd of 1116 (their 2nd largest crowd of the season), Whi... WTFC 0 Dulwich Hamlet 0 - 7.03.09
Pullie collected an award for his hatrick earlier in February A game between these two sides usually produces a goal-fest. This one didn't, and it was no classic spectacle. But I disagree with comments suggesting that it was boring. And a point and a clean sheet are not to be balked at even if this was a game from which three points could have been bagged. Having said that it wasn't that boring, it's equally true to say that it wasn't exactly peppered with incidents. And given that the game ... Continue reading ...
Dulwich Hamlet 4 WTFC 3 - 28.10.08
This was never going to be an easy game, but last season this game away at Dulwich Hamlet proved to be the turning point as Whitstable took all three points after a fantastic 3-2 victory against a team flying high in the league. Tommy Martin's free kick was the pick of the bunch in that game. On a blisteringly cold night at Dulwich with sheets of sleet hammering at the players, many fans decided to take advantage of the warmth of the fantastic bar. But a hard core of travelling Oysterboys, w... Continue reading ...
WTFC 0 Dulwich Hamlet 2 - 10.11.07
(Shape, where is your shape?)
The last time Whitstable started a game with a pre-match group huddle was in the Kent Senior Trophy final against Bearsted last season. This season, that gesture of togetherness has been distinctly lacking. Other teams in the Ryman who start this way, tend to do well against the Oystermen. Not always, but generally. Perhaps it signifies a team spirit and understanding currently eluding Town? Of the two teams on the pitch yesterday, Dulwich certainly played with... Continue reading ...
WTFC 3 Croydon Athletic 2 - 19.08.08
Croydon Athletic turned up not only in a very nice coach, but also with a couple of potentially tasty players in their team: Mark De Bolla (ex Ebbsfleet) and Simon Osborn (ex Palace). Osborn displayed his qualities throughout until cramp set in late on and scored an excellent individual effort 18 minutes into the game. He had already made his mark three minutes earlier with a beautiful cross-field pass to Clayton whose shot was parried by Fewell. The goal came shortly after Liam Quinn (of... Continue reading ...
Ashford Town 4 WTFC 0 - 25.08.08
If Saturday’s performance against Burgess Hill was the worst in recent history then today’s game could surely not have been far behind? Oysterman of the match by a long way was Kevin Fewell. And if the keeper, who let in four, was by far the best player on the pitch, it really says very little for the rest of the team. That said, both veteran Whitstable players Tom Parker and Rob Thomas did pretty well amongst some other very ordinary performances.
There was a debate about whether the te... Continue reading ...
